Glass bottles and jars go in the purple glass bin where your council has one, otherwise the yellow recycling bin.
The detail#
Separate glass collection keeps other recyclables clean and glass out of landfill. Rinse containers and leave lids off. Broken glass and drinking glasses or Pyrex are not accepted, they go in general waste wrapped safely.

The lid colours themselves follow Australian Standard AS 4123, so the colour code is national even where the accepted-item list is not. Where a council runs a food and garden organics service or a separate glass bin, the answer for some items changes.
